Three jobs that sound alike
Choose by the work you need, not the title on the door.
↗
Gestor administrativo
A regulated, colegiado professional who can manage procedures with public administrations on a client’s behalf. Useful for registrations, routine filings and recurring paperwork.
If someone uses this protected title, ask for their full name and Colegio number, then verify it with the relevant Colegio.
≡
Accountant or asesor fiscal
Usually the practical choice for bookkeeping, quarterly returns, annual accounts, payroll and ongoing business tax compliance. Scope and professional qualifications vary by practice.
Ask who reviews and submits each form, what software is included, and whether responding to an AEAT notice costs extra.
§
Tax lawyer · abogado fiscalista
Useful when interpretation, legal strategy, an inspection, an appeal or litigation is involved. A multidisciplinary firm can combine this with routine accounting.
Verify the individual lawyer in the Spanish Bar’s national register and ask whether your engagement includes representation.
A quick rule of thumb
One salary and a routine return? Start with a personal-tax service. Invoices every month? Look for recurring autónomo or business accounting. Philippine income, property, accounts or tax already paid there? Choose cross-border expertise. A notice, inspection or appeal deadline? Contact a specialist promptly and show them the complete letter.

We did not infer language ability, Filipino identity or professional status from a name, photograph or community comment. We have not independently tested service quality.

Send one useful first message
A clear outline makes it easier to get a real quote instead of a sales call.
Hello, I live in Barcelona and would like service in English.
I am [employed / autónomo / running a company]. I arrived in Spain on [date]. During [tax year] I received [Spanish salary, freelance income, Philippine salary, rent, pension, investments, etc.].
I need help with [return or problem]. Please confirm who will handle it, what is included, the total fee including VAT, the documents you need, and whether support for an AEAT notice is included.
Ask before you hire
Is the quote fixed or hourly, and does it include 21% VAT?
Exactly which modelos and tax years are included?
Who submits the filing, and will you see it before submission?
Are bookkeeping software and invoice limits included?
What happens if Hacienda sends a request or correction?
How quickly do they answer during filing deadlines?
Gather, but keep secure
Arrival and travel dates for the year
Spanish and Philippine income summaries
Employer withholding certificate and payslips
Invoices, expenses and prior quarterly filings
Foreign tax paid and relevant certificates
Foreign accounts, investments and property details
Any AEAT letter, including every page and deadline
04
Pause when something feels off
A cheap monthly headline can hide an incomplete service.
No written scope
You should know which filings, notices, bookkeeping volume and advice channels your fee covers.
A guaranteed refund
No adviser can honestly promise a tax result before reviewing the complete facts and documents.
Your certificate or Cl@ve code
Never hand over a one-time code. Ask how representation is authorised and how credentials and documents are protected.
“The Philippines does not count”
Foreign income, tax paid, accounts and property can affect Spanish filings. The treaty does not make the question disappear.
No named professional
Ask who is responsible for your work, their role and how you can verify any claimed professional registration.
Pressure to sign today

Questions to settle early
General orientation only; the right answer depends on your dates, income and legal position.
Does an NIE or padrón make me a Spanish tax resident?
Not by itself. Tax residence is separate from immigration status. AEAT considers days in Spain, economic interests and other circumstances; more than 183 days is one test, not the entire analysis. A treaty may decide residence when both countries’ rules point to residence.
Do I need specialist help for income from the Philippines?
Choose someone who explicitly handles cross-border matters. A Spanish tax resident is generally taxed under IRPF on worldwide income, while the Spain–Philippines treaty may allocate taxing rights or provide relief from double taxation. Bring records of the income and tax paid; do not assume a Philippine account keeps it outside Spain.
Is Modelo 720 a tax bill?
It is an information return for certain categories of assets and rights outside Spain, subject to conditions and thresholds. It is separate from declaring income. Ask whether your ownership and balances trigger it rather than filing solely because you have an overseas account.
My employer already withheld IRPF. Is the annual return automatic?
No. Withholding is an advance payment. Whether you must file, and whether filing benefits you, depends on the rules for that year and your circumstances. A routine personal-tax service may be enough unless foreign income, assets or residence questions add complexity.
Can the same firm handle immigration and tax?
Some multidisciplinary firms on this page offer both, but the two questions remain distinct. Ask for the immigration professional and tax professional responsible for each part, and obtain a scope and fee for both.
Can AEAT help me for free?
AEAT offers information and appointment channels, plus campaign services for eligible income-tax returns. It does not replace personalised cross-border planning or act as your advocate in a dispute. Start with AEAT for a routine procedural question and seek independent advice when the facts are complex.
What if I already missed a deadline?
Do not wait for the next annual campaign. Keep the notice and envelope, note the date received, and contact AEAT or an appropriate adviser promptly. Possible next steps and consequences depend on the filing, timing and whether the authority has already contacted you.
Need the underlying tax guide?
Read the community guide to residency, worldwide income, annual returns, autónomo registration and foreign assets.
