Send the right thing
the right way.

A balikbayan box, an original document and a small parcel are three different jobs. Start with what is inside—not the company logo.

Services and contacts checked 9 September 2026. Prices and delivery estimates change; get a written quote for your exact postcode, contents, weight and collection date.

01

What are you sending?

This choice decides the carrier, paperwork, customs route and realistic delivery time.

Balikbayan box

Personal and household effects or gifts sent by a qualified Filipino abroad to family or relatives. Sea freight is usually the practical route.

Use the box checklist ↓

Documents

Passport applications, certificates, contracts and other paper-only shipments. Use a tracked document product and keep scans.

Protect the originals ↓

Ordinary parcel

A smaller shipment that does not use the balikbayan privilege. Courier or post can be faster, but customs charges may reach the recipient.

Prepare customs data ↓
02

Compare the route, not just the quote.

Filter by shipment type. No star ratings: the useful facts here are the receiving partner, written terms, tracking and who answers if something goes wrong.

LBC Express Spain

A Filipino-focused first call in Barcelona: balikbayan boxes, air cargo and document envelopes.

How to use it
Barcelona agent phone numbers are current on LBC’s Spain site. Call before travelling; LBC’s own pages show inconsistent street details.
Route
Spain to the Philippines; destination availability and pickup coverage depend on the receiving postcode.
Published timing
LBC publishes 7–10 days for Spain air cargo. It does not publish a dependable sea transit promise on the page we checked.
Price basis
Quote by size / kgLive quote. LBC says box price varies by size and air cargo is priced by weight and destination. No defensible public Spain figure found. Ask the Barcelona line for box size, province, collection, handling and valuation charges in one written total.
LBC Spain rate guidance · checked 9 Sep 2026
Tracking
Receipt tracking number; track on LBC’s site or LBC Connect.
Loss or damage
Claims depend on LBC’s contract. Its Spain air-freight FAQ says written claims must be filed within 30 days of the transaction.
Customs
Packing List and Inventory Forms are required. LBC separately lists prohibited goods; do not treat “accepted at the counter” as a customs guarantee.

Check before paying: The March 2026 DTI/FTEB list does not visibly pair LBC with Spain in its Spain rows. Before paying for a sea box, ask which DTI-accredited Philippine forwarder/deconsolidator will receive it and verify that name on the current list.

Loss or damage
Request cargo-insurance terms and the carrier/forwarder liability limit in writing.

Freight forwarding and customs arrangements are shipment-specific. This DTI pairing does not itself establish duty-free eligibility.

Check before paying: Its public site presents a logistics business, not a consumer balikbayan-box tariff. Ask whether it accepts your shipment type before travelling.

Moves & freight

Mudinmar Mobility

A full household move from Barcelona to the Philippines, including collection, packing, door-to-door transport and customs-document support.

How to use it
The company publishes a Barcelona-area office at Carrer de la Fusta 13, 08740 Sant Andreu de la Barca. Arrange a survey and quote before bringing anything.
Route
Its current Philippines route page explicitly offers collection in Spain and delivery to the destination home in the Philippines.
Published timing
The route page promises a tailored estimate with the quote; it does not publish one standard transit time.
Price basis
Survey-based quoteQuote required after the inventory, volume, addresses and moving date are known. No defensible public range. Request an itemised quote for origin packing/collection, sea or air transport, destination delivery, customs work, storage and cover.
Mudinmar Philippines route · checked 9 Sep 2026
Tracking
Ask the move coordinator for the inventory reference, shipping document, vessel/air milestones and destination-agent contact.
Loss or damage
Ask whether the quote includes all-risk or limited moving cover, the declared-value schedule, exclusions, deductible and claim procedure.
Customs
Mudinmar says it supports the documents needed for the move. A household removal has its own customs treatment; do not assume the balikbayan-box privilege applies.

Check before paying: This is an international-removals service, not a per-box padala counter. Ask for a written inventory-based quote and the Philippine destination agent.

For sea freight, verify both ends.

The company collecting in Spain is the foreign agent. A Philippine freight forwarder or deconsolidator receives and clears the consolidated boxes. You need both names.

  1. Ask the collector: “What is the exact name of your DTI-accredited Philippine forwarder or deconsolidator?”
  2. Open the current DTI/FTEB list. Find the Spain agent and matching Philippine company—not merely a similar brand name.
  3. Put both names on your receipt. Add the box number, destination, declared contents/value, price, expected schedule and claim contact.
  4. Pay traceably. Keep the receipt, inventory, passport copy, photos of all sides and the sealed-box number.

04

The balikbayan privilege has conditions.

“Balikbayan box” describes a customs privilege as well as a box. It is not a blanket tax-free label.

₱150,000Total FCA value across the qualified sender’s availments in one calendar year—not a target value for every box.
Up to 3×Duty-and-tax-free availments per qualified Filipino sender per calendar year. A shipment above ₱10,000 counts as one availment.
Personal onlyPersonal and household effects or gifts for family/relatives. No commercial quantity, resale, barter or hire.

Rules above: Philippine Bureau of Customs guidance, CAO 01-2018 and CMO 18-2018 information sheet. Checked 9 September 2026.

Who can qualify

Non-resident Filipinos, overseas Filipino workers and resident Filipinos abroad can qualify. A company, partnership, cooperative or sole proprietorship does not receive this privilege.

What the forwarder needs

  • Completed BOC Information Sheet / packing list
  • Copy of the sender’s passport biographical page
  • Invoices or receipts, when available
  • Every item and its truthful value—not “assorted goods”

What never becomes safe because it is in a box

Prohibited goods remain prohibited. Restricted or regulated goods need the required authority or permit. The carrier’s own prohibited list can be stricter than customs rules.

If it is an ordinary courier parcel

The balikbayan exemption is not automatic. Philippine customs may assess duties, VAT and carrier clearance charges. The BOC estimator is only an estimate and excludes shipping charges.

Open the BOC estimator ↗
05

Pack for handling, customs and a claim.

A strong box helps. A complete paper trail helps more.

Balikbayan box

  1. Confirm before buying the box. Ask which dimensions, weight limits and seals the collector accepts.
  2. Inventory as you pack. Write each item, quantity, condition and honest value; keep receipts for higher-value items.
  3. Contain leaks. Bag liquids individually only if the carrier accepts them; pad bottles and sharp edges. Never hide a prohibited item.
  4. Fill voids without bulging. The box must stay square and withstand stacking. Do not create handles by cutting it.
  5. Photograph the open layers. Then photograph every side, label, seal and box number after the agent seals it.
  6. Keep the file. Receipt, contract, inventory, passport copy, photos, tracking number and both companies’ names stay with you.

Original documents

  1. Ask the receiving office whether a scan, certified copy or apostilled copy is acceptable before sending the only original.
  2. Scan front and back in colour; record any serial or certificate number privately.
  3. Use a rigid, water-resistant inner sleeve inside the carrier envelope. Do not laminate a civil-status certificate.
  4. Choose end-to-end tracking and signature where available. Confirm whether the carrier’s liability covers documents—replacement effort often is not covered.
  5. Address the named person and add a working Philippine mobile number. Share the tracking number separately.

Ordinary parcel

  1. Measure all three sides and weigh the finished parcel. Couriers can charge dimensional weight when it exceeds actual weight.
  2. Describe each item precisely, including material, quantity, purpose, value and country of origin where requested.
  3. Ask who will pay duties and taxes. “Door to door” can still leave import charges for the recipient.
  4. Check batteries, medicine, food, cosmetics, plants, seeds, alcohol and valuables against both carrier and Philippine agency rules before booking.
  5. Save the commercial/pro forma invoice, quote, label, customs form, proof of value and photos.
06

Before money changes hands.

Take five minutes to make the promise specific enough to enforce.

Get in writing

  • Total price and what can still be charged
  • Collection/loading date and estimated range
  • Spain agent and Philippine receiving partner
  • Tracking or box number
  • Declared value and liability/cover limit
  • Claim deadline and evidence required

Walk away if

  • The collector refuses a receipt or full company name
  • They say customs forms or item values do not matter
  • They guarantee “tax free” regardless of sender, contents or value
  • The payment name does not match the company and nobody explains why
  • They will not identify the Philippine deconsolidator
  • They pressure you to hide or misdescribe goods

Something is delayed? Ask for the current milestone: awaiting collection, consolidated in Spain, loaded, vessel/air departure, arrived at port, customs examination, released, or out for final delivery. “In transit” alone is not an answer.

07

Padala FAQ

The questions to settle before the tape goes on.

Which option should I use for papers needed soon?

Start with a tracked document product from LBC, Correos, DHL, FedEx or UPS and compare the live quote for the exact destination postcode. Ask whether signature is available and what happens if the document is lost. A sea box is the wrong route for urgent originals.

Is every balikbayan box automatically tax free?

No. The sender must qualify, the contents must be personal/household effects and not commercial, the calendar-year value and frequency rules must be met, and the required information must be submitted. Customs can examine boxes and assess charges when conditions are not met.

Can I send medicine, vitamins or food?

Do not assume. These can be regulated, restricted by the carrier, or limited by type and quantity. Ask the carrier about the exact product and check the relevant Philippine regulator before packing it. LBC’s own prohibited list, for example, excludes medicine from its box service.

Does “door to door” include customs charges?

It describes collection and delivery, not necessarily who pays duty, tax, brokerage, storage, remote-area or disbursement charges. Ask for a written list of included and excluded costs. Express couriers commonly separate transport from government charges.

Can someone who is not Filipino send a duty-free balikbayan box?

The specific balikbayan-box privilege is for qualified Filipinos while abroad. A non-Filipino can still send an ordinary international parcel or freight shipment, but should not assume the balikbayan exemption applies.

How long does sea freight take?

There is no honest single number. Ask for the next container loading date, planned vessel departure, port arrival range, customs-clearing range and last-mile estimate. Weather, consolidation, port conditions, customs examination and the final island/province all affect it.

Is declared value the same as insurance?

No. Declared value may set a carrier’s maximum liability and may attract a fee, but exclusions, depreciation, proof requirements and legal limits still apply. Ask what event is covered, the maximum payout, deductible, claim deadline and required photos/receipts.

What if the box is lost, opened or damaged?

Notify the company in writing immediately, within its contractual deadline. Preserve the receipt, inventory, sealed-box photos, tracking history, delivery photos and purchase evidence. Ask for a claim reference. For sea boxes, contact both the Spain agent and the named Philippine forwarder/deconsolidator.

Why are there no prices copied onto this page?

The verified Spain services either use live calculators or require a route-specific quote. A stale price can be worse than no price because postcode, volume, weight, fuel, remote areas and customs services change the total. This page links to the live quote or current contact instead.

What we could not verify

No official current public source established home collection across Barcelona for UMAC, a public consumer-box rate for LBC or UMAC, or consumer balikbayan-box service from the other DTI-listed Barcelona freight agents. We therefore do not claim those services. We also found conflicting LBC Barcelona street details, so the current official phone numbers are safer than an address until LBC reconciles its pages.
