Documents & getting started
I lost my TIE, or it was stolen. What do I do?
Report it, then apply for a duplicate within a month. Losing the card does not lose the permission — the TIE only documents an authorisation that still exists in the state’s records — but you have one month from the loss to ask for a replacement, and you cannot prove your status at a counter until you have one. Checked 15 September 2026 against the Ministry of Inclusion’s TIE sheet HI92 and the Policía Nacional fee table.
Does this apply to me
Anyone whose TIE was stolen, lost, destroyed or damaged beyond use. The same duplicate procedure covers all four. If your passport went in the same bag, that is a separate replacement at the Philippine Consulate; the two do not happen at the same office.
Steps
- Report the loss or theft to the police and keep the paper they give you. In Catalonia that is a denuncia with the Mossos d’Esquadra — the answer on a lost Philippine passport says how and where. HI92 asks for “denuncia por extravío o sustracción” as part of the duplicate file, so this is not optional.
- Book a fingerprint appointment (“toma de huellas”) through the official cita previa site, choosing Barcelona. The appointment is free.
- Fill in form EX-17 and tick *Duplicado por pérdida, sustracción, deterioro o cambio de datos*.
- Pay tasa 790 código 012 at a bank on the printed form. Keep the stamped copy.
- Go in person with everything in the list below. Minors go with the parent or legal representative.
What to bring
- Form EX-17, completed and signed.
- Your passport, original and in force.
- The stamped proof of payment of the tasa — HI92 warns the printout must be complete, with the “Ejemplar para la Administración” strip at the bottom.
- A recent colour photo, white background, passport size.
- The denuncia, or the damaged card if it was damaged rather than lost.
- If you moved since the card was issued, a volant d’empadronament under three months old.
What it costs
HI92 says only that the tasa “depends on the authorisation the card documents”. The Policía Nacional fee form, read 15 September 2026, lists the TIE for a first temporary permission at €16.08, a renewed temporary permission at €19.30 and long-term residence at €21.87; the form has no separate duplicate line, so ask at the counter which heading to tick before you pay.
How long it takes
You have one month from the day of the loss to apply. No processing time for the card is published; you will be told when to collect it, and only you can collect it, because HI92 says the person collecting must prove they are the holder.
If you must travel before the new card arrives
A holder of a valid TIE who has applied for a duplicate can ask for an autorización de regreso, a document that lets you leave Spain and come back within 90 days. See the question on travelling while the TIE is being renewed.
What goes wrong
- Posting a photo of the lost card, or of your passport, in a group chat asking for help. Anyone can download it. No office and no helper needs an unredacted copy of either.
- Paying someone for the appointment. It is free; the only money is the tasa, paid at a bank.
- Missing the month because you were waiting for the denuncia. File the report the same day.
